The club, Concordia Against Cancer, is hosting a Relay for Life. The Relay for Life helps raise awareness for the American Cancer Society.
The “Relay for Life” is a 12 hour event that will not only include a walk/run, but other events such as Zumba and other physical activities and also ceremonies that will remember anyone who has gone through cancer, including a Luminaria Ceremony.
“The ceremony is meant to celebrate the survivors and remember those who have been lot to cancer,” said Concordia Against Cancer’s club president, Amanda Westphal.
Westphal participated previously in another “Relay for Life” and one of her friends is a cancer survivor which is how she got the idea to host an event at CUW.
Apart from her own connection to the event, Westphal said that this event will have a huge impact at Concordia and the surrounding community.
“Everybody has known someone with cancer,” said Westphal, “It will be a good opportunity for people to come together and support each other.”
The Relay for Life event will be held from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on April 29-30 in the John R. Buuck field house at Concordia.
